Cottage Style Indoor Herb Garden

Hello, friends!

If you have read my blog (or seen my pinterest boards, for that matter), you know that I am a self-proclaimed epicurean.  While I am nowhere near a professional cuisinère, I love cooking, and I love exploring different types of culinary delights.

Summertime is a great time for entertaining, and when cooking, there's nothing better than having fresh herbs on-hand and ready for use.  Today I will be sharing how to make a simple cottage-style herb garden for the kitchen countertop or windowsill for less than $20.  I hope you enjoy the post!

You will need:
1 Set three galvanized buckets (flower pots) and tray, I found mine at The 99¢ Store
Modpodge
Burlap fabric or extra-wide burlap ribbon
Spray adhesive
Printer paper
Printer and printer ink
Scissors
Paint brush
Living herbs from the local grocer
Garden soil

First, using a free photo-editing software, create the graphic you want.  I chose to write the names for my herbs in French for a little cottage-y appeal.  I used Picmonkey to create this simple graphic.  Once you have designed your graphic, print.

Cut the names of the herbs out.

Size the names of the herbs on your piece of burlap or burlap ribbon, and trim to size, leaving the burlap a bit bigger than the name.  If you are using burlap ribbon like I did, you may want to remove the welted edges and unravel a few rows for a bit more rustic appeal.

Spray a minimal amount of the spray adhesive onto your mini bucket, enough for the burlap to adhere to the surface.

Shown here.

Using the paintbrush, brush a small amount of Modpodge onto the burlap.

Place the paper with the wording centered in the middle of the strip of burlap.  Paint over with the Modpodge.  Allow to dry.  I set mine outside in the 100+ degrees California sun, so they dried quite fast!

Once they have completely dried, Modpodge them again.

So cute.

Now, these are ready for fresh herbs.

Add a small amount of enriched soil to each of your mini buckets, and water the soil.

Gently break apart the roots of your herbs to promote growth.

Add to your mini buckets.  Top off with soil, and water once more.  Violà!!  It smells like a wonderful Italian restaurant as I am working...mmmm, so good!

This project was so easy, inexpensive, and the herbs taste lovely!  I buy these often, so I thought, why not keep them growing and easily accessible? You may pin if you like this tutorial:

I hope you are enjoying the beautiful summer weather!  Until next we meet...

Hello, friends!  Thank you for stopping by to visit today.  Thank you for all of the sweet comments I received during my grief of losing a close family friend.  I very much appreciate it!

Today I am celebrating the fabulosity of Fall!  A few of my favorite publications are sharing wonderful inspiration for an amazing Autumn, and I thought it would be such fun to share some highlights with you.  I hope you enjoy!  Unfortunately, all of these articles are either too new or too old, so I wasn't able to link up the actual articles.  However, if interested, simply click on the photo and you will be redirected to the subscription page of the corresponding photo.

Magazine Monday #6

Hello, friends!!!  This time of year is extraordinarily busy in my household!  Between the two months of April and May, we celebrate four birthdays, our wedding anniversary, and just recently, Boy Scouts awards and Choir concerts.....whew!  My apologies in advance for this week's very tardy (and retro-posted) Magazine Monday!

Summer is fast approaching, and before you know it, it will be here!  Right now, it's that time of year just before it's too hot, and the outdoors are so appealing to me!  It's the perfect time for a lazy reverie outdoors.  Last year, I shared this post of a relaxing teatime lakeside.

For today's Magazine Monday, I am sharing a few inspirational spaces perfect for those fair-weathered days.  I hope you enjoy the post!

I have become an ardent fan The Cottage Journal, a gorgeous publication released by Hoffman Media, which also publishes another of my favorites, Teatime Magazine.  To be directed to the website where you can subscribe (currently offering a free issue), simply click on the pictures or the link above.  I recently picked up the Spring 2015 issue, and it is wonderful!

In the article Waterside Picnic there are not only envy-worthy photos, but recipes as well!  I adore the idea of an impromptu picnic with sweet little noshes to nibble on; and if so desired, a hammock for a lovely naptime afterward.

How pleasing is this spot?  After a romantic row on the water, there's nothing like a sweet picnic for two.

The feature Shabby Chic Garden is full of beautiful inspiration, especially this darling porch and swing perfect for relaxing in the afternoon.

Cottage Style Magazine released by Better Homes and Gardens, is another of my faves.  The article Garden Variety from their Fall/Winter 2012 issue is full of inspiration for anyone who loves a mixed garden.  A glimpse into Donna Talley's lovely world made my eyes happy with the beautiful pops of purple prettiness.  To be directed to the subscription page, click the photo.

This little spot in the June 2013 issue of House Beautiful is romantic, bohemian, and charming all rolled into one!  For full details of the design resources of the photo, click here.  To subscribe, you can visit the webpage by clicking the photo.

Finally, I just love this sweet area just outside a cottage in Malaga, Spain.  How darling is the hammock in the trees?  As I look at the photo, I can almost hear a guitar version of Isaac Albeniz' Malagueña playing in the background!  For details about this fabulous cottage, click the picture to be directed to the post on Houzz.
