Set Your Table with Flair--Elegant Halloween Tablescaping

Velcome my dahlinks muah ha ha!  Thank you for visiting my blog.

If you have read my posts, by now you realize I love to entertain. I especially enjoy the tablescaping process.  All Hallows' Eve or Halloween is a great holiday for adults and children alike.  There are so many décor options! There are the gory, the kitschy, children's decorating options....the list goes on and on. My personal preference is setting an elegant table with romantic gothic or Victorian elements. This post is my interpretation of that theme.

First, I thought about a color scheme. For an elegant table, I omitted traditional orange, instead opting to use almost all black with silver as an accent color.  Once I decided on the color palette, I picked up a few special items here and there.

First, I set my tablecloth. This lovely damask tablecloth has just the right amount of silvery sheen.  It was not necessary to iron the linen.  You will see why in the following step.

Next, I set this lovely spiderweb tablecloth. I deliberately chose a tablecloth smaller than the initial one to showcase its pretty scalloped edges....utilizing it more as a runner.

Next, I placed black chargers, plates and mugs; clear skull goblets, black napkins and silver place-setting napkin rings.  Here is a close up.

I placed the candles in these small witch cauldrons.  These are really for serving, but how adorable are they as candleholders!?

This spooky-meets-pretty element was achieved by removing the top of the scrolled candleholder (shown below) and instead using it as a vase. I created the floral arrangement by combining faux black hydrangeas, columbines, and blackberries....a limited amount of grey-blue faux peonies, and a small amount of faux weeping greenery.

Here is a closer view.

Next, I placed faux candelabras at either side of the table.

Finally, I placed my poison bottles, napkins, and cake stand....along with some yummy treats.

Shabby Chic Farmhouse Storage

In my wildest fantasies, everything in my household would remain copacetic 24/7. As we mature, idealistic principles are replaced with reality.
:)
Not one to be easily dissuaded, I still do try. Lol. During spring cleaning this year, I found these adorable bins at Marshall's. I love that they have the rustic appeal of something you would see in a French Provençal country house. I also like the fact that these come in different sizes. I used an Old-English font to label these, and voilà!

I also use these to organize my kiddos' art supplies.

Dining chair redo

I recently donated all of my old dining furniture to Goodwill, one of my favorite haunts. While there, I found these incredible English dining chairs. I paid $50 for all four which also included a corresponding table.

I also found these (unsure of origin) at a local thrift for $25 each.

I began by hand-sanding the chairs.

Being that these chairs are fairly old, and not wanting to compromise the integrity of their construction, I opted not to use the typical method of deconstructing them and using the old fabric as a template. Instead, I enlisted the help of my eager six year old! I had her sit atop the foam while I traced it from beneath. I then used the first cushion cutout as the template.

Another view.....

I used bronze upholstery tacks. You can find them at most fabric stores.

After approximately three to four coats of quick-drying stain, I nailed down the fabric. Here are the chairs upon completion.

Piano Bench Makeover

The baby grand piano in the foyer is a favorite piece in my home. I've owned it for several years. After a while, though, I realized my bench was looking a little sad. I decided to give her some help.
Here is how the bench looked before I went to work.

I found two panels that I believe were once curtains for $1.50 each at the local Salvation Army. I used only one panel to complete this project. After purchasing some bronze upholstery tacks for $5.00 at a fabric store, here is the result.
