Saint Patrick's Day in Green, White, and Black

Hello, sweet friends in the bloggersphere and beyond!  Thank you so very much for stopping in to my blog.

Do you celebrate Saint Patrick's Day?  In my home, we tend to celebrate likely because my hubby has some Irish ancestry.  His grandmother was full-blooded Irish, and the first generation of the family to come to America.  My hubby was also raised as a devout Catholic, and although I myself was raised Protestant, we do observe Lent.

Today, I am sharing our simple décor and a few tips that are simple and Lent-friendly that ensured our St. Paddy's day went off without a hitch.  I hope you enjoy the post!

This year, I kept the front doors simple with these cute door hangers I found on clearance last year at Big Lots.

Here's a look at the left

and right doors.

In the foyer, I have changed out the throw pillows and linen to coordinate with the theme.

I also added some sheer green ribbon to the candelabras that hang in the foyer.

Fresh linen to match on the table in the foyer.

More cute pillows to coordinate in the seating area.

Setting the table with flair

For the evening's festivities, I kept with the same theme of green, black and white.

I began the setting with a lovely, creamy, off-white damask.

Rich green placemats were placed next

followed by simple white plates,

black salad plates,

and darling leafy bread and butter saucers for dessert.

We kept spirits simple, so I only needed one green goblet for drink during dinner

and one coffee mug for afterward.

Crisp white napkins were placed adorned with green grosgrain ribbon.

Black flatware was placed to complete this casual setting.

I kept the floral arrangement quite simple with a vase of hobnailed green glass and white flowers.

Complete tablescape.

Place setting.

Tea and coffee service for later in the evening.

Nummies

Our typical fare for Saint Patrick's Day is corned beef and cabbage with potatoes, however, in the past few years, my eldest daughter has adopted a vegetarian diet, so this year along with the other dishes, I wanted to offer her an option in an Irish-themed pasta.  This pasta is a perfect option for those whom observe lent.

To prepare the pasta, I started with a roux of butter and flour.  I seasoned with a bit of garlic salt.

When the roux was completely smooth (shown here), I added some grated Irish Stout Cheese.

This cheese is very pungent, and tastes close to a very strong aged Parmesan. This was my first time using this cheese, and although I liked it, I recommend using HALF of the block rather than the whole block (as I did, live and learn, lol), because again, it is strong, and it might not be to everyone's liking.

I added a bit of milk and cream, stirring altogether until smooth.

I then incorporated a premade jar of alfredo sauce.

I served the sauce over these darling Irish ravioli that I found at my local Costco.

Aren't these cute?  Right before tossing them into the water.

Lovely.

I hope everyone enjoyed their Saint Patrick's Day with family, friends, mirth, and merriment!

Until next we meet,

--Y
