Set Your Table With Flair--Sweet Afternoon Tea

Who doesn't love the idea of a private reverie, book in hand, feet propped?  I deeply enjoy a lazy, quiet afternoon; a relaxing half-hour spent engrossed in the pages of my choice.  While I do this, I love to have a small snack. Tea with cookies is one of my favorite things to nibble on.  I have such an affinity for tea that oftentimes, I don't drink anything else.  This post is how I would set a sweet tea-for-one.  This also could be an adorable idea if you wanted to serve someone in bed.

First, choose a tray to your liking.  

When serving tea, you really can't go wrong with sweet, delicate doilies, which I placed next.  

A color scheme is really not required; just as long as the colors meld well.  Place a favorite teacup and saucer. Nothing compares to fine English bone china!  Next, cookies and flowers....all set!

Pretty Girlie Closet

Hello, friends!   Those of you returning, thank you so much!  If you've never been to my blog, welcome!  

Decorating a girl's room is so much fun.  There literally are options upon options to choose from.

This post is about how to create a girly-girl closet for your little princess.  

Sometimes when purchasing an older property, you will find that either

A)  The closet doors are terribly ugly, or

B)  They are completely non-existent. 

Here is my solution to the problem.  In a girls' room, it is a quick and easy fix.  You may simply hang curtains in lieu of purchasing new doors, and it actually looks much better.   

First, measure the space.  Once you have measured, choose a curtain rod with a length ample enough so that it is slightly longer than the space.  

Measure either side of the space so that you set the mounts evenly. Mount your rod. 

Once your rod is mounted, place your curtain. I have used a Cynthia Rowley fabric shower curtain here. I thought it was just adorable, and I loved the ruffled detail.  I was also fortunate enough that it matched the color scheme of the room.  Voilà!   The ruffles and scrolled rod mesh perfectly with the room, which has a French theme.  Utilizing a ruffly curtain creates a boudoir feel.

Set Your Table with Flair--Elegant Halloween Tablescaping

Velcome my dahlinks muah ha ha!  Thank you for visiting my blog. 

If you have read my posts, by now you realize I love to entertain. I especially enjoy the tablescaping process.  All Hallows' Eve or Halloween is a great holiday for adults and children alike.  There are so many décor options! There are the gory, the kitschy, children's decorating options....the list goes on and on. My personal preference is setting an elegant table with romantic gothic or Victorian elements. This post is my interpretation of that theme. 

First, I thought about a color scheme. For an elegant table, I omitted traditional orange, instead opting to use almost all black with silver as an accent color.  Once I decided on the color palette, I picked up a few special items here and there.

First, I set my tablecloth. This lovely damask tablecloth has just the right amount of silvery sheen.  It was not necessary to iron the linen.  You will see why in the following step. 

Next, I set this lovely spiderweb tablecloth. I deliberately chose a tablecloth smaller than the initial one to showcase its pretty scalloped edges....utilizing it more as a runner. 

Next, I placed black chargers, plates and mugs; clear skull goblets, black napkins and silver place-setting napkin rings.  Here is a close up. 

I placed the candles in these small witch cauldrons.  These are really for serving, but how adorable are they as candleholders!?  

This spooky-meets-pretty element was achieved by removing the top of the scrolled candleholder (shown below) and instead using it as a vase. I created the floral arrangement by combining faux black hydrangeas, columbines, and blackberries....a limited amount of grey-blue faux peonies, and a small amount of faux weeping greenery.

Next, I placed faux candelabras at either side of the table.

Finally, I placed my poison bottles, napkins, and cake stand....along with some yummy treats.
