Finding My Blogging Voice

Hello, friends!  Welcome to my blog.  I can't believe it is already March of 2015!  How quickly time goes by!

I have officially been blogging two years as of this month!  This has been quite a learning experience, I will tell you.

When I began writing, I had never read a blog.  Not one.  It could be argued that I really didn't even know what a blog was.  I have a tendency to jump into things head-first and learn along the way (Oh, you silly girl).  All I knew was that I loved decorating, especially tablescaping, and I wanted to share that and my love of DIY projects.  It all began with me sharing with my personal friends on our family Facebook page.  I had just finished upholstering my piano bench and had snapped before and after pictures to share with my friends.

It was at about the same time that I decided to redo my dining room chairs, and began the process of building my DIY highback bench, when I decided to chronicle my progress as I went along.  I really didn't have a blogging voice, certainly no formula, just cut-and-dry tutorials with no real personality, because truly, at first I felt I wasn't really talking to anyone in particular.  The photographs are rough and without any styling whatsoever, because really, when I began, the pics were mostly for my family and friends.  I wasn't trying to be a professional of any sort (oh, dear).

How I discovered blogs

Discovering blogs happened quite by accident about a year ago.  I had just signed up for Pinterest.  I was hoping that pinning my pictures there would drive back traffic to my blog.  As anyone who has been on the site knows, it is a wonderful site of discovery.  I began to "pin" pictures of lovely gardens, beautiful tablescapes, fabulous fashion.  I must sound incredibly naïve, but one day while using the site via my Smartphone, I inadvertently clicked a picture I had "pinned" and found it directed me right to the blog!  I immediately went about correcting the pictures I had uploaded from my site, adding my own links.  From there, I discovered Linky parties, and this wonderful world of a comradery of very kind women (and some men) who all shared the same passion I did. It has been a learning process to say the very least, and initially I felt a bit awkward and intimidated (certainly humbled) navigating through the blogs of very talented ladies whose work I'd admired for several months via pictures on Pinterest.  It was nice however, to discover the personalities and figures behind all of that beautiful inspiration.

I am still learning, still trying to find my blog's "voice," and I appreciate every person who has been kind enough to come and peek at any of my sites, anyone who has been sweet enough to leave a comment.  There will be changes, as I hope to be ever-evolving, and hope also to improve (Lord knows I need it)!  I thank you for coming along with me on this journey.

  3. You have an amazing voice! You apparently have grown into it because I love your blog. It took me awhile to find my own voice and I'm still not sure I have. I know there are many "young people" blogs about motherhood and such, but never really found many about hot marriages after the kids are out of the house. I have that - but I also want to encourage and inspire - so it gets tangled up sometimes!
