Adding the Final Touches for Independence Day

Hello, Friends out there in the Bloggersphere and beyond! 

During these uncertain and contentious times, I truly like to reflect and remember what is important.  Even though our country is rife with dissension, social and civic unrest, and an ever-growing pandemic, I still love this land.  I still care greatly for our country and my fellow countrymen; I am by definition, a patriot who holds on to the belief that we are evolving closer to the tenets upon which this great nation was founded.  It will take work, for certain, but I truly believe (not naïvely) that we will eventually get there.  Independence Day is just a short time away, so I thought I would share a few last-minute ideas that can be incorporated into your celebration with ease.  I hope you enjoy the post!

Decorating the Front Doors

Nothing for me screams Summertime like nautical flair.  I made these adorable door hangers, and they took no time at all.  They combine the whimsy of Summer fun, and of course, proudly display the red, white, and blue!

To make these you will need:

Red faux flowers

Nautical-style oversized beach tote(s)

Miniature versions of "Old Glory"

Paper towels

Red Ribbon

I began by wadding up the paper towels

and placing them inside the beach totes

until the tote is able to stand up on its own.

I then added the red flowers and the mini flags.

Each tote was attached to the iron on my doors by adding a bit of red ribbon.

I originally placed the flags inside the bags, but I found that threading them through the grommets of the tote held them in place much better.

So fun, and so SIMPLE!





Sweet Nuances

I wanted to continue with the nautical theme, so at the backyard cottage,

right next to the flowerbox, a new flag is displayed.  I usually change the flags to match the season, and when I saw this one at Lowe's, I knew it was perfect for this year's theme.




Isn't Mr. Schnauzer too cute snappily outfitted in red, white, and blue sailing regalia!?  Love him!





Setting the Table with Flair

No celebration for me is complete unless it includes delicious treats and a lovely setting to eat them on.  This Independence Day will be no exception.


A no-fuss, no-muss setting in the garden is perfect for a lazy Summer afternoon.





I began the setting with vibrant crimson charger plates placed on a background of crisp white linen


followed by simple white plates.

Cobalt blue stemware for summery sips

are complimented by crimson teacups

and a grand blue bowl full of patriotic charm.

Charming little saucers dance merrily

with crisp blue-and-white linens, completing the table setting.

The napkins are easily set aside to place dainty mini Charlotte Russes for guests...strawberry adorned with red ribbon,

and blueberry adorned with blue, of course!

The pièce de résistance??  Blueberry and Strawberry Charlotte.  A Charlotte Russe makes the perfect Summertime dessert.  So light yet so decadent...

Set Your Table with Flair--An Upscale Independence Day

Hello bloggy pals and beyond!




How do you celebrate our great nation's independence?  Do you like down-home country casualness, chock full of traditional fare such as BBQ, baked beans, and the like?


Usually at my home, we celebrate in a very casual way.  This year however, I thought, why not go with a more upscale setting which is aesthetically appealing without being too fussy?


Of course, no 4th of July tablescape would be complete without the tradition of red, white, and blue.  To heighten this year's setting, I chose to use a mix of patterns, including some of my favorite red transferware.  Mixing the patterns adds a little whimsy to the setting while not depleting the sophistication classic transferware brings.  I adore these little striped navy and white plates!







A mixture of glassware in blue, clear, and red....

blue and red candles in patriotic silver bugles of varying heights,

pair perfectly with an upscale tureen filled with casual bougainvillea clipped fresh from the garden.

I added a combination of napkins in red, white, and blue adorned with a small bit of ribbon, and silver flatware completes the setting.

Set Your Table With Flair--A Purely Americana Independence Day Setting

Hello, lovely friends, and thank you for stopping in to visit today!  If you are American, have you begun planning for the celebration of our nation's independence?  I usually start thinking about ideas approximately two weeks in advance, but this time around, I began thinking of this table setting in December.  What!!?  December??  Well, I'll tell you why.  Each Winter and Spring, we do a de-bulking around the house, getting rid of clothes the kiddos have outgrown, toys we no longer need, et cetera.  We usually donate most of the wares to the local Goodwill.  This past December, as I was going through my boys' old jeans, I reserved a couple pairs with the intent of making very "Americana" placemats with strips of the denim.  It was then that I began thinking about this year's Independence Day tablescape, which I wanted to have a sort of retro vibe.  I hope you enjoy the post! 

My table began with a bright white hemstitched cloth.  As you can clearly see, I detest ironing tablecloths, but for a barbecue, I think being casual is absolutely fine, especially if you intend to use a runner on the tables!  ;)  Red and white buffalo check fabric emulating a picnic was placed sideways in the middle of the table as a runner.

 

As American As......

For the centerpiece of this table, I wanted something that looked retro, rustic, and that emulated country charm.  I began with a rustic crate I found recently.

A quick coat of navy blue paint and stenciled stars, the crate was ready for an All-American arrangement.

Simple white flowers, red apples, and mini American flags were placed inside.

A few close-ups.

Cut pieces of leftover denim were used as placemats,

followed by navy chargers.

Red napkins folded length-wise

were followed by white plates.

A navy napkin folded downward into a quasi-triangle

was followed by matching white saucers.

Denim coasters placed catty-corner

were followed by little covered pots perfect for chili.

and flatware with festive straws tied with a bit of denim complete the setting.

Setting up where there is a peek-a-boo of the lake makes for a relaxing, serene scene.
