Buckets Of Elegance With Hometalk

Happy Thursday, dear friends!  I hope you are all in good spirits!  I can't wait for the weekend myself!  It is well into the 90s this week, and I am beginning to long for the Summertime!

Do you have any old buckets laying about?  Well, don't toss them!!  I recently wrote this post in which shared how I made over a bucket by adding French lettering.  I am a member of the Hometalk website, and the lovely folks there enjoyed my post, so I have been again asked to curate a board for them.  If you have never heard of Hometalk, you should definitely take a peek!  It is a user-friendly site on which folks can join in open discussions, make constructive suggestions to other members, find inspiration, and so much more!  You can even upload and share your photos, which of course, as a blogger I love.....and you can create or 'curate' boards where you can reference and catalogue the ideas you find.  How fun is that!?

Via the Hometalk site, I was able to find some truly lovely and elegant transformations of old buckets, each with very easy instructions.  So please, don't toss your old buckets!!  They can be transformed into things of beauty even if they don't start out that way!!  Each of the projects on the picture below has a tutorial on the site.  Simply click the picture below, and you will be automatically directed to the board I've curated on Hometalk and the projects' respective links and tutorials.  I hope you love these as much as I did!

Until next we meet.......

Little April Showers and A Few of My Favorite Things

Drip, Drip, Drop Little April Shower…

Hello, friends, thank you for visiting me today!  Do you remember that little tune from Disney's Bambi?  It certainly applies to today in the neck of our woods.  It's very rainy!  We are in the middle of a drought so the rain is a welcome sight, but it can be dark and gloomy to a California-born sunshine-lover like myself.   On days like these, I surround myself with my loved ones and a few of my favorite things.

Beautiful, fragrant roses....

my favorite color combination of blue and white depicted in a pretty pattern on a lovely pot,

antique lace-edged linen in soft Paris grey,

a sweet teatime in antique silver

good words

and good sounds.

I also love to take this kind of day to reflect.

Right now I'm just slightly obsessed with Tori Amos' album Night of Hunters, her first album released on a classical label.  I've been a fan of hers for years, but just recently gave this one a listen...and it is fantastic.  Pairing her beautiful voice and piano with orchestra-caliber strings and woodwinds, all arranged alongside the works of Satie, Chopin, Debussy, Shubert, among others, is like heaven to me.  I'm only sorry I didn't grab it sooner when it was released back in 2011!  I just had to gush about it a bit!  If you're a music appreciator, I think you'll enjoy it (unless you're a purist, ha).

I'm looking forward to trying out a new product, Maison Blanche Paint.  I recently visited the local antique where I previously purchased my Annie Sloan, and they have decided to carry Maison Blanche instead.  The label states there is little to no prep work needed.  There are mixed reviews online, so we will see....

How do you keep things cheerful on a rainy day?

Until next time......

Set Your Table With Flair--A Romantic Mother's Day

Hello, Friends!  Thank you for stopping by today!  Mother's Day is just around the bend, so today I am sharing a tablescape and a few inspirational ideas that I hope you will enjoy!

A Sweet Setting

For this tablescape, I decided outdoors would be best.  There's something so appealing about dining al fresco, especially when the flowers are in bloom.  Just be sure you prepare beforehand to keep the buggers away!  You can read my post about how to deter garden pests in the archives here.

I began this setting with simple hemstitched linen in bright white.

A sheer antique curtain scarf with pretty embroidery became the topper.

I love the intricate detail of the embroidery, and also the fact that it has an interesting faded-looking pattern....it lends to its charm.  Aren't old textiles and those that emulate them interesting and lovely?

Red transferware

followed by simple white plates

and rose saucers complete the plate stack.

Crocheted tea towels in beige held by roses in pink and white

were followed by crystal goblets

and gold flatware.

The Romance of Roses
It's no wonder roses are among the most popular or are the most popular flowers chosen for Valentine's Day.  Sweet and fragrant, with beautiful petals; you cannot go wrong.  Last year, I chose tulips for my Mother's Day setting, but for this setting, I chose to combine pink and red roses.  Pink roses signify love, gratitude, and appreciation, while red mean love and romance.  A centerpiece was created by simply laying the beautiful flowers down the length of the table.

A cherub looks on as I set......

Little Details
To make mom feel special, there's nothing like something you make yourself.  I personally cherish the little trinkets my children make for me, even more so than something that is found in a store.  Here, I've handmade some pretty candies.

A depression glass compote,

carefully lined with tissue paper holds the sweets.

There are sweet roses in varying pinks and reds,

vintage-looking cameos,

and darling antique mirrors among others....all lending to the romance of the table's overall atmosphere.

For extra romance, I added a sheer canopy over the table by simply hanging the canopy on a branch in one of the trees.

Completed tablescape.

Place setting.

I hope you have a lovely and wonderful Mother's Day!

Touring a Nursery

Hello, dear bloggy pals!  Thank you so much for dropping by today!  I hope all is well with you and yours.

A little while ago, I read a post about a sweet nursery tour on a blog I follow Rooted in Thyme.  It was so inspiring!  You can read about it here.

There is something so charming about a nursery, isn't there?  The other day I visited one of the nurseries local to me, and although the weather was overcast and unpleasant, losing myself for a moment among the trees,

the beautiful

and fragrant flowers,

made the gloomy day disappear.

I even found a little nostalgia in a loquat tree, which I haven't seen since my youth!  I so miss these trees; each summer when I was little, we would enjoy its fruit.

Are April showers at hand in your neck of the wood?  Until next time.......
