Hello, lovely people in the blogger universe and beyond!! How has this holiday season treated you thus far? Here at the Parsimonious Home, I am elated to say it finally feels like we are back to normal after two years of uncertainty. My husband works in the medical field and needless to say, it has been a roller-coaster of highs and lows; of curiosity and of the unknown. So glad to say it seems the situation is finally coming 'round!!
To celebrate things sort of returning to normal, this year for Christmas, I wanted to reflect and decorate with things quite traditional. If you have read my blog before, you know this is no stretch for me because I am a traditionalist at heart. However, I really wanted to up the ante this year and surround myself with family and all of those things that remind me of the warmth and happiness that Christmastime exemplifies for me.
Today, I am sharing two tablescapes for Christmas that truly epitomize my idea of Christmas. If you have been here before, you are also aware that I am absolutely mad about tartan and plaid...especially during Christmas, and that two of my favorites have always been McQueen and Blackwatch. For me, there is nothing better to express a traditional Christmas!
I absolutely adore fine china and plates of different patterns. However, when purchasing, I usually buy tableware in sets no larger than 12, because my immediate family is seven, and typically, when entertaining, the extra five settings suffice. As time has gone on, marriages, children, and as more family has moved closer, that is no longer the case. What's a gal to do?? This Christmas, I am using blackwatch tartan as the main linen on both tables. It is not only cohesive with the theme in my home this year, but using the same linen pattern as a basis allows both tables to stand alone as well as play together quite nicely. I hope you enjoy them both!!
Table number one:
The Traditionalist
To set this table, I began with a simple ruffled linen tablecloth and used a runner of tartan to add a swath of color to the table.
A simple garland of green dances down the table along with gold ornaments placed here and there.
Navy chargers, non-fussy white plates, and napkins folded into little Christmas trees complete the plate setting.
Large gold pillar candle stands with navy candles were placed at either side of the table.
Dark green stemware fits perfectly with the wonderful color palette.
A few forest friends look on from the table center.
To compliment the gold of the large candlesticks, I used corresponding flatware, also in gold.
Completed Tablescape.
The Upscale
To set this table, I began with a full tablecloth of blackwatch tartan. A large "vase" of Christmas greenery was placed in the center of the table.
A beaded silver charger and blue and white transferware plate serve as the base at each setting.
Cobalt blue stemware perfectly compliments the lovely blue of the transferware.
Small boxes
packed with sweet chocolate truffles
were wrapped in simple craft paper and adorned with Edinburgh blackwatch tartan ribbon,
tiny pinecones, and a small spray of wintery goodness.
A silver ribbon dances down the table with a smattering of navy ornaments placed here and there,
along with mini snow-capped trees.
Forest friends also stand proudly at this table, this time in corresponding cobalt blue.
Silver candlesticks with white tapers provide a bit of romance.
Silver flatware completes the setting.
A jaunty teapot looks on for after-dinner sips.
Completed tablescape.
Which do you prefer?
I hope this post finds you all surrounded by the love of family and the warmth of the holiday season! Many blessings to you and yours! I am off to begin baking like a mad woman for tomorrow's festivities, lol! Merry Christmas Eve!

Pick a favorite? No way could I pick between these two beautiful tables. I'm mad for plaid and tartan and checks! The tartan touches thrill me, and I, too, have the Spode Zoological Collection. Some of my favorite blue and white.
